The Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) is a preschool program open to four-year-old children who meet eligibility requirements. The program is intended to provide four-year-olds with access to a free, quality early childhood experience in preparation for a strong transition into Kindergarten. The program is designed to promote a child's school readiness skills and social competencies through attention to education, family support, and collaboration.

Space is limited and child must be 4 years old by 9/30/2025. Apply to the 2025-2026 VPI program.

In compliance with Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 33 and Virginia Department of Education Draft Model Cell Phone Policy,

Richmond County Public Schools is a Cell Phone-Free Educational Setting.


To ensure students have a focused and healthier learning environment, Richmond County Public Schools is implementing and enforcing the following procedures at all schools. Students who use their electronic devices during school hours are subject to disciplinary  consequences, including confiscation of devices.

Off and Away
Students must keep cell phones and other personal electronic devices turned off and in their backpacks or bags from 8:15AM to 3:15 PM the end of the Instructional Day. Smartwatches may not be used as personal communication devices.

Open Ears for Open Minds
No headphones/earbuds are to be worn at school. Headphone/earbud use is only permitted for specific learning activities as directed by school staff.

School Devices for Learning
For instructional purposes, only school-issued electronic devices will be allowed.

School Phones for Calls Home
Parents who need to reach their child during the school day should call the main office. Students who need to reach a parent should ask a staff member and will be able to do so using a school phone.
