Virginia Preschool Initiative Program
The Virginia Preschool Initiative Program (VPI) is a pre-school program open to four-year-old children who meet eligibility requirements.
The program is intended to provide four-year-olds with access to a free, quality early childhood education experience in preparation for a strong transition into kindergarten.
The program is designed to promote a child's school readiness skills and social competencies through attention to education, family support, community collaboration, and parental involvement.
The program is funded through the Virginia Preschool Initiative.
The Richmond County VPI program has three classrooms which are each staffed by a licensed teacher and an instructional assistant.
Eligibility for the preschool program is based on the age of the child, income of the family, and other at-risk factors.
A child/family must meet one of the following criteria below to be considered for admittance into the VPI program:
- Family income at or below the 200% federal poverty guidelines;

- Student's parent(s) or guardian(s) are school dropouts; or
